Is Your System Working For You?
One of my favorite sayings has always been “Where there’s a will, there’s a way.”
To me, it meant that if I wanted something badly enough, I’d find a way to make it happen. Looking back, this belief shaped my deep commitment to creating freedom in my life.
In my first job after university, I quickly realized I wanted more than a paycheck. I wanted to enjoy my work and have the freedom to progress based on effort—not time served. Working at a blood testing lab, clocking in and out and taking timed breaks, I knew I craved freedom over my time, too.
This desire for freedom drove me to create systems that supported what I wanted.
Recently, in The Power of Systems I read a reframe that was more powerful “Where there’s a will, there’s a system.”
It’s true. The results we’re getting right now are directly tied to the systems we have in place.
This summer in Europe, I had a system of enjoying life—which translated to eating desserts daily. When I got back, the scale showed I gained 7 pounds. Why? Because I had a perfect system for gaining weight.
The good news? When you identify the system creating your results, you gain the power to change it.
I’ve replaced my old belief with “Where there’s a will, there’s a system.”
For Creating Freedom Unleashed Results:
1. Look at where you are.
2. Define where you want to be.
3. Assess your current system.
4. Ask: What system would create the results I desire?
For example:
• Not enough money? Are you overspending or playing small?
• Relationship challenges? Are you waiting for the other person to change or stuck in a losing game?
• Longing for connection? What’s your system for fostering it?
Your systems determine your outcomes. What system will you create to unleash your freedom?
