Feeling Overwhelmed?Create Space for Freedom

I was recently asked, “When you feel overwhelmed or unfocused, what do you do?”

 

Here’s my quick 4-step process—simple enough that even my kids use it when they feel overwhelmed:

 

     1. Notice the Feeling

     Recognize when you’re feeling overwhelmed or unfocused. Awareness is

     the first step to taking control; without it, the feeling runs your actions.

 

     2. Slow Down

     Take a few deep breaths to create mental space and reset.

 

     3. Identify the Thought

     Ask yourself, “What thought is causing me to feel this way?”

     For example: I don’t have time or I have too much to do.

 

     4. Question the Thought

     Ask, “Is this thought really true?”

     Often, we accept our thoughts as facts when they aren’t, keeping us 

     stuck.

 

By identifying and questioning the thoughts fueling your overwhelm, you break the cycle of the thought you're believing.
